Beat Stress With Breath

Many of us spend most of the day without bringing much awareness to our breath. We breathe in we breathe out, it happens naturally but the reality is that most of us aren’t breathing deeply, using the full capacity of our lungs to send fresh oxygen around our bodies. You might have noticed that when we feel stressed we tend to hold our breath. Focusing your mind on your breath is the simplest of meditation techniques but can have a profound impact on your health.

When you feel yourself getting stressed, take a long deep breath in, filling up the whole of your lungs and then slowly breathe out. Repeat several times until you feel less reactive to the situation.

The breath calms the nervous system and brings us more into the present moment. When we live more from a place of present moment awareness we appreciate what is in front us bringing about a greater level of joy rather than worrying about the past or future.

Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that things don’t have to complicated. There is a great deal of power in simplicity and something as simple as breathing with awareness can change your life for the better.
